Encased in Ice

It was one of those dark winter mornings when I woke to find the trees coated with ice. The elegant forms of the Japanese maples in my garden were even more beautiful in their sparkling icy glaze. I especially like the warm red and yellow-green tips of the branches trapped in the ice and set against the cold background. The color is a sign of the life still inside the barren branches and the promise that spring will come.
