So Shines a Good Deed

Watercolor paintings are sort of known for being pale-colored. I've seen some oil paintings recently that really capture the glow and drama of candlelight. I wanted to see if this same drama and glow could be achieved in watercolor. This still life was set up from an old candle in the Christmas box and nandina berries from my garden.

The title of this painting is taken from a quote by Shakespeare from the Merchant of Venice:

"How far that little candle throws its beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world."

In a season of cold and darkness, we can choose to be hope and light and warmth to the people around us.
